Reflection on the Road to Emmaus

Luke 24: 13-35…Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him...(vs.31)

Why are the eyes of the disciples opened just now? It is because Jesus’ breaking of bread is an action, and a particular kind of action – sharing the basic necessity of life (bread), in continuity with the earthly practice of Jesus. Although the disciples’ hearts burn at the expounding of scripture it is only when words are complemented by action, the action of sharing that which is necessary for daily life in the manner of Jesus, that the recognition of the risen Jesus comes’.

May the rising of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ awaken in us loving and faithful action in the church, community and the world.

 - Jackie Taylor

CHURCH HUMOR"  SUNDAY,

MARCH 30,  9:00 AM
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN OF CHESAPEAKE CITY

For centuries in Eastern Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant countries, the week following Easter Sunday, including "Bright Sunday" (the Sunday after Easter) and  was observed by the faithful as "days of joy and laughter" with parties and picnics to celebrate Jesus' resurrection. The custom was rooted in the musings of early church theologians (like Augustine, Gregory of Nyssa, and John Chrysostom) that God played a practical joke on the devil by raising Jesus from the dead. “Risus paschalis – the “Easter laugh," the early theologians called it.

Worship at Chesapeake Presbyterian will include practical jokes, funny stories, juggling, and blue grass music.  Come out and join us to laugh in the Lord!
